Sunbathing in the Courtyard

The residents had a delightful afternoon sunbathing in the courtyard, basking in the warm rays while surrounded by blooming flowers and lush greenery. Settled comfortably in their chairs, they enjoyed the peaceful ambiance, chatting and laughing together as they soaked up the sun. Halloween Fun

In preparation for Halloween, the residents had a blast creating a colorful candy monster to hold their treats. Armed with vibrant construction paper, googly eyes, and plenty of glue, they crafted a whimsical creature that was both spooky and fun. As they filled it with an assortment of candy, laughter filled the room, and the excitement for Halloween grew. The finished candy monster stood proudly, a testament to their creativity and teamwork, ready to bring joy to the festivities!

Snack Time

During our recent cooking class, the residents had a delightful time making cinnamon butter popcorn. With enthusiasm, they measured out the ingredients and took turns stirring the buttery mixture infused with a hint of cinnamon. The aroma filled the room, creating a cozy atmosphere. Once the popcorn was tossed in the sweet blend, everyone gathered to taste their creation, and the smiles on their faces said it all.

* Message from Randall ~ Jett’s Pickleball Fiasco

Hey, it’s Jett, your favorite furry athlete and boy do I have a bone to pick with my humans.  They turned my beloved tennis court into…pickleball!  Who does that?! Gone are the fuzzy tennis balls I could sink my teeth into.  Now, it’s these hard, weird pickleballs with holes.  I tried catching one, but it kept slipping out of my mouth like soap.  And those holes?  My teeth got stuck in them!  Not cool, humans.  Not cool. Then they yelled, “Out!” So naturally, I thought, “I’ll just eat the ball.”  Nope!  Worst. Snack. Ever. But don’t worry, I’ll figure it out – right after my nap. Your pickleball – challenged pal, Jett

Patriotic Gnome Paintings

Art Adventures

Some of our residents have been busy this summer with creative crafts and paintings! So far we’ve crafted patriotic floral arrangements that brought a burst of red, white, and blue to our festivities. Our themed gnome paintings, adorned in Fourth of July colors, added a whimsical touch to the day. Inspired by the vibrant style of Paul Gauguin, we also painted palm tree scenes, capturing the essence of summer with bold, lively colors.

Staff Appreciation

Our staff appreciation party was a fantastic celebration of teamwork and fun. The event was filled with exciting activities, including a lively game of giant Jenga that had everyone cheering and laughing. We also had various games and prizes, adding to the festive atmosphere. A standout feature of the party was the delicious fruit salad, creatively served in a watermelon carved to look like a pig. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognize and appreciate our hardworking staff!

6.20.24 Butterflies 3

Summer Gives Us Butterflies!

The first day of summer was a day filled with joy and celebration as we gathered with our residents for a special party. The highlight of the event was a beautiful butterfly release, symbolizing new beginnings and the vibrant spirit of the season. We watched in awe as our beautiful butterflies took flight, bringing smiles and a sense of wonder to everyone present. It was a day of connection, creativity, and celebration, marking the start of a wonderful summer ahead!

Jett

* Message from Randall - Jett’s Summer Shenanigans

Hey there, it’s Jett, your favorite furry visitor! Last month, you got to meet me, and this month, I’m back to spill the beans on my hilarious summer adventures! With the thermometer hitting triple digits, I’ve become quite the cool canine – literally! I love tearing around in the sunshine, but even us energetic dogs need a break. My top trick? Dashing through the hose stream while Mom waters the plants. Picture this: a soaked, grinning me and a very unimpressed Mom. Classic, right? But wait, there’s more! I’ve discovered that rolling around in the shaded grass is the ultimate cool-down move. It’s like my version of a spa day, with the added bonus of looking absolutely ridiculous. Trust me, it’s a sight to behold! And my pièce de résistance? Chilling indoors and chomping on ice cubes. I stare longingly at the ice cream, but alas, that’s off the menu for this pup. I hope you’re getting your fair share of ice cream to stay cool, while I dream of what could have been! But I’m not alone in my cooling escapades. My fellow dog buddies get pretty creative too! Some dig holes in the yard to find cool soil, others splash around in kiddie pools, and a few even try to catch the sprinkler’s spray. It’s all part of the fun of summer when you’re a dog! So, next time you see me, just remember: staying cool is an art, and I’m the master artist!

Avid Artists

Avid Artists

In light of our June butterfly release and summer weather, we created a few celebratory art pieces! We honored our butterflies with acrylic paintings and filter butterflies. And to ring in the hot temperatures, we pretended we were in a tropical oasis – or rather just painted it! With the late Keith Haring’s birthday being recently, we also learned about him and the beautiful and meaningful art he created. We made some of our own Haring inspired art with a Roll-A-Haring dice and drawing game!

6.4.24 Cheese Day

Party People

Our last month was full of fun festivities! Our national day calendar has given us a lot to celebrate. For National Mimosa Day, residents enjoyed a mimosa bar with different fruit juice options. International Tea Day gave us a reason to have a high tea party with tea sandwiches, pastries, and new flavors of tea. We also celebrated National Cheese Day, and it was nacho ordinary party! Swiss won by a landslide, but we had 5 different cheeses just in queso for residents to try some new things! You cheddar brie -lieve everyone had a grate time!

* Message from Randall - July 2024

Hi there, I’m Jett! You might have seen me wagging around the cottage recently. Traveling, visiting the cottage, and saying hi to everyone are some of my absolute favorite things to do—well, besides munching on my kibble! My full name is Jett Von Prufenpuden. Fancy, right? I’m a Giant Schnauzer, and my birthday is on July 2nd. I’ll be turning five this year! I love cake, but my people say it’s a no-go for me (so unfair!). I was born in Kentucky and spent my first two years at PDS Training School learning how to be the best dog ever. I learned all sorts of cool things like staying on my bed, heeling, following my people, and even protecting them. I got to visit all kinds of places and meet loads of people—over 100 families! No boring kennel for me. I met babies, horses, tractors, and bicycles and learned to stay safe around all sorts of farm equipment and animals. I played with other dogs like German Shepherds and Dobermans and was part of a big doggy pack. Now, I live on a farm in Pennsylvania with my people. There’s so much grass to run on! But I’m not allowed to chase the deer, turkeys, or squirrels. I do get to bark at them sometimes, though! The only thing I’m allowed to chase is groundhogs, but honestly, they’re not much fun. My people have lots of kids and grandbabies, and I love the babies, especially when they come for lunch or dinner and drop food on the floor. Score! I can nap with the babies and play fetch with the bigger kids. Swimming isn’t really my thing, but I do love getting wet at the pond when it’s hot. And oh, I love truck rides and meeting new people! I can’t wait to visit the cottage again and say hi to everyone because you’re all so nice!

Mother's Day Picture for article

Mother’s Day!

Here at the Cottage, we celebrated Mother’s Day in style! On the Friday before, we had a happy hour with tea sandwiches and mini pastries. A family member showed a well known and loved movie for the residents, which they loved! Residents were also given an opportunity to participate in a project called "These Hands", with 12 participating! It was originally created to honor mothers, but we put our own spin on it. Our version honors our women, whether mother, sister, aunt, and even just loving and caring for themselves. After all, at some point or another we’ve all had a mother and most of us have been an influential figure in someone else’s life. “These Hands” recognizes how much work goes into being a caring person, and what hands do to support you and your loved ones through life.
